About the role
You will lead on all our global communications work, ensuring that our output is strategic, effective, and focused on delivering impact against our organisational mission. You will have the freedom to develop and build our approach to communications, focusing in on increasing the impact of our communications work, using it to build our influence in support of our organisational objectives, increase brand awareness and directly influence decision-making and behaviours. You will ensure that we have systems and structures in place to monitor and measure our work, ensure alignment, and make the most of the resource that we have.
You will work across the organisation, building a strong understanding of our work and identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement. You will make sure that we can be nimble and responsive to external events, while keeping the team focused on delivering against agreed priorities.
The Communications Team includes 20 colleagues based in Los Angeles, London, Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw, Madrid, and Singapore. They work on strategic and corporate communications and bring significant experience in a wide range of areas, including political, litigation and environmental communications.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by our Director of Communications, Chris Duncan. Chris joined ClientEarth in 2018 and is based in London. Before joining ClientEarth, Chris was Global Communications Director at Marie Stopes International.
Main Duties
- Lead our global team of communications professionals, building a shared vision and collaborative approach, which recognizes the different geographical and cultural contexts in which they are operating.
- Oversee development and delivery of our corporate communications strategy and plan, ensuring it aligns effectively with other aspects of our communications and influencing work.
- Work closely with Global Head of Public Affairs and Policy and Global Head of Digital to develop and implement communications and digital components of our influence-building strategies, focused on targets identified in stakeholder mapping.
- Build and maintain an effective network of relationships that will support our work, including with partners in the sector, key journalists, and opinion formers, continually looking for opportunities to utilize external contacts
- Oversee delivery of all communications work across the organisation, ensuring high-quality, effective, and well-coordinated output that delivers against organisational objectives.
- Monitor and analyse external communications trends, themes, and commentary, looking for opportunities to support and amplify our work, as well as potential threats to ClientEarth’s work and reputation.

Role requirements
- Substantial experience and proven success in leading communications and building teams across multiple countries Experience of developing engaging content for use across a range of channels, including website and social
- Experience of working with senior leaders and offering strategic communications advice
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (essential)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the media, communications tools, and techniques with a proven track record of success in managing communications and media relations in an international organisation
