SALT Consultant - Part time (Ogma)

Founders Factory's latest concept in the Mission Studio (backed by Nesta) is Ogma. 

The Opportunity:

At least 10% of children in the UK have a speech, language and communication need (with delays disproportionately affecting disadvantaged children). As language is fundamental for learning and social interaction, the effects of early communication difficulties can extend far beyond childhood, leading to poorer literacy, mental health and employability in adulthood. Early intervention is crucial, however in the current system, children are left waiting months before they can even be assessed. We see an opportunity to use advances in AI, LLM and Conversational AI to disrupt the status quo of speech therapy by driving efficiencies, reducing cost and increasing access. We will deliver a high value, high impact service for less whilst, intrinsically, (i) generating a rare dataset (that currently does not exist) and (ii) self-training its models to provide a unique competitive advantage to be the market leader in AI speech therapy solution.

✅ We are looking for:

An experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist with >5 years experience to work with us for a set number of days to deliver specific deliverables within a tight timeframe Familiarity with current tools and techniques used in speech and language therapy A passion for leveraging technology to enhance the efficacy and accessibility of therapy Exceptional communication skills, able to convey complex ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders Eagerness and flexibility to contribute to a mission-driven startup, making a lasting impact in the lives of children and families

💪 Key responsibilities/deliverables

Triage map: Create a mind map of different diagnostic categories within Paediatric Speech and Language therapy, including indicators of each diagnosis at different ages, and what information a SALT would need to screen for each diagnosis at each age. Therapy map:  An extension of the triage map, showing for each diagnostic category, the types of intervention a therapist could choose to implement for different ages, as well as indicators of the effectiveness of each intervention (using the existing evidence base). Therapy summaries:  For each type of therapy identified, provide a summary of how it is implemented by a therapist, the types of tools/resources that currently exist, and the current evidence base for this therapy.
