What will you be doing?

You will be working in an environment with staff and volunteers who are fun, friendly and love making a positive difference to the local community. Part of what makes this role so unique and interesting is navigating the challenging environment of the third sector amid budget tightening and cost of living increases, whilst ensuring we continue to deliver high quality services in difficult times.   As a charity, we adapt according to the current needs of our community, expanding our services whilst analysing how we can improve the organisation for the benefit of our service users, employees, and volunteers. We are looking for someone who can work alongside their fellow Trustees to help guide the charity through a period of positive change. We feel so passionately about our mission because ageing creeps up on us all. By supporting over 55s today, we are creating a better local community for those of us approaching this age group in the coming weeks, months, years, and even decades. We are looking for Trustees who have a strong empathy with our mission and values, are collegiate in approach and are comfortable working with others to develop a strategy that will deliver positive change and ultimately will make Bournemouth, Poole, and East Dorset a great place to live in later life.   Whilst we welcome applicants from many different career backgrounds, we are particularly interested in applications from those who have a background in: - Fundraising - Marketing - Legal/ Financial - Retail   Previous experience of working or volunteering in the third sector would be a bonus.   Please do not be dissuaded from applying if your experience lies elsewhere, we welcome applications from anyone with a positive attitude and caring demeanour.

What difference will you make?

The majority of us have either seen or experienced ageing. If you’ve ever cared for a loved one in later life, you will know that the journey isn’t always straightforward. It can involve travelling with them to appointments, encouraging them to get involved with more social activities, supporting them through illness and bereavement, and helping with everyday life admin. Age UK BPED are here to help and support over 55s, but also their families and caregivers because we understand how caring for a loved one can impact your work, social, and family life. We’re here at every stage of ageing – for the over 55s who are in work and very active but want to do an exercise class to improve their health and meet new people; for the people who need a little bit of extra help with cleaning and gardening to remain independent in their own homes; to those who find technology overwhelming but are still determined to master it!   However, we can’t do all of this on our own – and that’s where you come in. We are looking for passionate Trustee volunteers who want to enable those in later life to live independently with dignity and choice.    As a Trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to work with the Chief Executive to assist the strategic progression of the charity, the services we offer are the only opportunity for some to have for social and physical interaction which can reduce the negative psychological and physical effects linked to loneliness and isolation.
