Role Summary

Role Requirements

About This Role

As an Android Engineer on Strava's Activation team, you will play a key role in the onboarding and retention of our users. Part of the Growth organization, this team is dedicated to ongoing experimentation with the aim of perpetually expanding our user base. You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals including mobile and web engineers, product designers, analysts, and marketers to meticulously craft the user journey from initial sign-up to sustained long-term engagement. Your efforts will focus on leading the development and refinement of features that not only enhance the onboarding process but also bolster user retention, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience that supports our athletes in every step of their journey.

For a core product experience, join our Activities team as an Android Engineer and immerse yourself in a role that is integral to powering athletic growth. This team is dedicated to making athletic data both understandable and impactful for our users, by building a holistic view of their efforts and fitness and highlighting sustainable paths to progress. In this position, you will lead efforts on a team focused on the activity experience, a core aspect of Strava's product offering. This team is responsible for backend systems that process millions of activities daily, as well as developing athlete-facing experiences that are high-traffic and central to Strava’s premium features. This is a unique opportunity to influence a vital part of our platform, enhancing how our athletes interact with their own performance and the community at large.

  • Demonstrating empathy for athletes and their experience while using Strava
  • Taking ownership of your work, and partnering with cross-functional peers to ensure services are properly scoped and implemented.
  • Building well-documented and easy-to-use systems that are quickly and widely adopted across our engineering organization.
  • Contributing to an inclusive and collaborative team culture
  • Building beautiful, smooth, delightful mobile experiences.
  • Mentoring other engineers and providing technical leadership to the team through forums like tech talks.
  • Using your in-depth knowledge of all things Android to help drive technical conversations with peers from different backgrounds, across different teams.
  • Be willing to explore and learn new technologies outside of your comfort zone

We’re excited about you because:

  • Have experience building Android applications in a production environment using Kotlin. Jetpack compose experience is a nice to have
  • Have experience working with large, modularized applications that use dependency injection tools and GraphQL is a nice to have
  • Stay up to date and experiment with the latest Android technologies.
  • Have a product-focused mindset. Our team works together to deliver projects that use technology to solve real business problems.
  • Enjoy working on mobile apps at all levels – from networking up to user interfaces and everything in between.
  • Have experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques.
  • Can collaborate with Android, iOS, and Server engineers to ship features.
