- Shared purpose, culture and values
- Unbeatable work flexibility and balance - A truly remote first role with the option to visit our office space in London if that's what works best for you
- A diverse team of colleagues, partners and clients based all around the world
- A team with unrivalled experience and track-record in the sector
- Design, build and scale systems for ingesting, storing and computing geospatial data. By collaborating with domain experts across the Engineering, Machine Learning and Science teams, you will enable the team to design and implement new ingestion, transformation and experimentation pipelines capable of handling a diverse range of dataset. On a typical day, you might pair program with other engineers to build systems capable of storing, orchestrating and computing remote sensing imagery, LiDAR, geospatial datasets or other nature-related datasets such as eDNA and bioacoustics.
- Influence technical strategy and make decisions in ambiguity. You will play a key role in driving foundational work in our data engineering pod and broader engineering team. You will help our teammates navigate various foundational data engineering challenges, guiding technology choice and adoption of best practices.
- Contribute to the sustainable delivery of quality software. You will produce code across the infrastructure and backend services of our data platform. You’ll deliver well-tested and maintainable code, balancing sustainable quality with impactful velocity. You will do so primarily through collaborative pair and ensemble programming, but you may also do so independently by participating in peer-reviewed development when appropriate.
- Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team. You will collaborate with our product team, scientific domain experts and other engineers to perform continuous product discovery. Informed by discovery, you will help the product & engineering teams define and run experiments, practice rigorous iteration, and incrementally enhance our data platform to produce insights through geospatial analysis and power user experiences that scale our carbon project origination, design and implementation products.
- Support our customers. We believe in owning the products that we build. You will help the team define our KPIs, product SLOs, and alerting thresholds. You will participate in an on-call rotation to support issues that might affect our customers and help our team identify and reduce operational toil that limits our impact.
- Support our teammates. You will have ample opportunities to mentor other engineers as they build their skills and experience. You’ll do so through pair programming, code reviews, daily communication with your team, giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, and helping your teammates grow.
- A love of nature. We are a mission-driven company with a strong affinity for conserving and restoring natural systems. To make hard things happen, our team must put mission over ego. You find purpose not only in personal growth but also in stopping climate change and biodiversity collapse.
- Experience leading the design and implementations of concurrent, scalable and reproducible data processing workflows. You are familiar with the challenges common to data-intensive systems, Machine Learning and analytics and capable of advocating for best practices as they apply to data pipelines and distributed compute.
- You’re familiar with geospatial concepts. You are familiar with concepts related to geospatial data or remote sensing. Perhaps you’ve worked with a geospatial database or built a workflow ingesting imagery for model training. You might not be a geospatial expert, but you’re comfortable discussing the differences between vector and raster data and applying these to the design and implementation of geospatial data pipelines and storage.
- A strong sense of collaborative teamwork. You are comfortable participating fully in the collaborative Extreme Programming approach to development, product discovery and teamwork. You believe by embracing collaborative practices, we are more likely to achieve our shared objectives, benefit our users through rapid delivery, grow together by sharing knowledge, and ensure that every teammate can get the rest and time away they need.
- Comfortable supporting production software. You have experience shipping features to production and understand how to investigate and triage issues in your deployed code. You may have participated in an on-call rotation before and have opinions about making it an effective and positive experience.
- An adaptive and curious mindset. As a startup in an evolving industry, we keep our roadmap malleable and open to change in search of new opportunities for impact. You have an open mind and are comfortable pivoting as and when needed in response to new insights into our customers’ needs.
- You understand that customer value is what makes our work as engineers possible. It’s easy to get absorbed in inventing an engineering marvel and forget what problem we were meant to solve. You have the experience to keep things simple, revisit scope and work in small iterations.
- Clear and open communication. We consider clear and thoughtful communication a fundamental engineering skill and a strong predictor of future impact. You demonstrate this in your contribution to documentation, collaborative problem-solving, and willingness to give and receive feedback.
- Excited by distributed teams. You will be joining an international remote-working team with a proven ability to function effectively within diverse cultural environments. You're comfortable with the challenge and excited by the freedom afforded to remote teams, are a self-driver with a willingness to take initiative within a complex and fast-growing sector
