  • Assess and enhance the structure and efficiency of the Technology team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Technology and Program Manager to define improvement areas and implement strategies.
  • Create detailed process flows, optimize digital tools, and update the organizational chart to streamline operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing current practices, establishing tracking methods, and advising on best practices.
  • Stand in as deputy to the Head of Technology - Oceans as needed.
  • A Master's or Bachelor's degree, preferably in an engineering-related field.
  • At least 8 years of project management experience, ideally in engineering, construction, shipbuilding, or maritime industries.
  • Fluency in English and a proactive, results-oriented approach to complex challenges.
  • Must be comfortable with groundwork and administrative tasks crucial to project success.
  • Should thrive in a high-paced, challenging environment and be deeply motivated by The Ocean Cleanup's mission.

A valid European Union work permit is highly preferred. The position is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and is set to start as soon as possible with a 9-month definite contract. MISSION TO METRICS
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. To achieve this mission, we need to design, develop, and deploy offshore cleanup systems that concentrate and extract plastic from our oceans. As a Senior Project Manager for the Technology team, you will be responsible for improving the team’s structure and efficiency. You will work closely with the Ocean Head of Technology and Program Manager to achieve your objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Senior Project Manager, you will team up with a team with deputies of the departments within Technology who will help you investigate the current way of work in the team, ongoing projects, and interfaces to the rest of the organization. Based on this you will define areas of improvement and work on implementing these improvements with your team. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Create detailed process flows for each team within the Technology department concerning main projects to enhance understanding and streamline operations
  • Ensure the digital tools and environments used by the team are optimized and contain all essential information for projects, work scopes, and processes
  • Create and deliver an updated organizational chart that clarifies roles and responsibilities, supporting a more organized and efficient team structure
  • Work closely with the team to implement and support necessary shifts in roles and responsibilities, enhancing overall team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Investigate the current working methods, discuss findings with the team, and present an action plan for continuous improvement and better practices
  • Establish a method for tracking progress on all initiatives and improvements, ensuring transparency and accountability within the team
  • Provide advice on working practices to the Head of Technology - Oceans, offering insights and recommendations to improve team performance
  • Act as the deputy to the Head of Technology - Oceans during the assignment.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree, preferably with engineering affinity or background
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience in project management, preferably in a field where you have experience that prepared you for this job (e.g., in (innovation) engineering, construction, innovation, ship-building, maritime industry, etc.
  • Fluent in English.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Work permit: A valid European Union work permit is highly preferred for this position (The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands);
  • Starting date: As soon as possible, with a definite contract (9 months)
