About us

At Conception X, we help PhD researchers create deeptech startups and accelerate scientific breakthroughs. We launched seven years ago as a public innovation pilot at University College London and now run Europe’s leading cross-university deeptech venture creation programme. To date, we have recruited aspiring PhD founders from more than 60 universities, built 570+ founding teams across eight cohorts, and helped our portfolio startups raise more than £115 million.

The role

As we scale, we are looking for a results-driven Marketing & Outreach Lead to supercharge our growth efforts, driving engagement, increasing brand visibility and expanding our reach across key communities. You’ll work closely with the Head of Marketing to refine and amplify existing strategies, while shaping and implementing new high-impact tactics to engage researchers, increase awareness and generate high-quality applications. We are looking for someone based in London, with opportunities to work from our office and from home.

Main duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Growth & lead generation

  • Plan, execute and manage large-scale, multi-channel campaigns in collaboration with the Head of Marketing to dramatically expand our reach within target communities
  • Optimise key touchpoints and generate new promotional opportunities through strategic channels, platforms and partnerships
  • Build visibility within PhD networks, research groups and academic communities to drive pipeline growth through referrals and leads
  • Continuously optimise campaigns through A/B testing, user feedback, segmentation analysis and performance tracking
  • Support the promotion of recruitment and programme-related events to maximise attendance, and drive post-event engagement through follow-ups, feedback collection and content repurposing
  • Track, analyse and report on campaign performance using Google Analytics, CRM systems, social media analytics and other tools – to provide actionable insights and optimise lead generation, nurturing and conversion strategies
  • Present findings and recommendations to the Head of Marketing and other stakeholders to guide decision-making

Content & brand engagement

  • Create compelling, conversion-driven content across channels, including website, email, social media and event materials
  • Oversee the production and setup of event collateral, including banners, merchandise, signage and promotional materials, in collaboration with external designers
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all content aligns with brand guidelines and organisational objectives
  • Stay updated on best practices in content marketing and implement innovative strategies to drive exponential growth
  • Any other task that is deemed as appropriate and within the competence of the individual

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and significant hands-on experience – at least 3-5 years in marketing – in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • A proven track record of owning and executing successful campaigns end-to-end, from strategy to implementation
  • Ability to scale outreach and generate high-quality inbound interest
  • Strong understanding of digital and community-based growth strategies, including network-building skills
  • Data-driven mindset – able to experiment, measure and optimise
  • Comfortable with reporting, presenting insights and suggesting improvements
  • Experience creating sharp, clean content that generates results, adapting tone and style based on target audience
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • An eye for design
  • Someone keen to get involved and help out as needed outside of key responsibilities listed above. We’re a small team!

Nice to have:

  • Experience in marketing-based talent recruitment – ideally for an online programme, accelerator or similar
  • An interest in deeptech and research commercialisation, with an awareness of current trends and key conversations

Benefits:

• Salary of £38-45K

• Friendly, open and transparent culture

• You'll get to join a passionate startup with proven traction on its scaling journey

• Opportunity to sit in on Conception X Deeptech Entrepreneurial Training Sessions

• Flexible working hours / ability to work from home

• 27 days’ holiday plus all bank holidays

• Private health insurance.
