Role Summary
- Development and implementation of a reimagined legacy strategy to encourage and cultivate testamentary gifts to the Museum.
- Work alongside colleagues to produce significant materials such as brochures, digital resources and editorial content.
- Create, manage and monitor communications and engaging event programmes targeting existing and potential legacy pledgers.
- Line management of the Museum’s Stewardship Officer.

The British Museum is embarking on one of the most significant cultural redevelopment projects undertaken anywhere in the world. The Masterplan will transform the Museum for the 21st century while staying open, maintaining the founding commitment to keep the collection safe and accessible to the public for generations to come.
The role: The Philanthropy Manager: Legacies and Special Appeals will be responsible for developing and implementing a refreshed legacy strategy designed to promote and cultivate gifts in wills to the Museum. You will work with colleagues across the Museum to create impactful materials including brochures, online resources and editorial content. You will also be responsible for creating, delivering and monitoring communications and an inspiring events programme for existing and potential legacy pledgers, working with colleagues across Advancement to ensure best use of resources. You will also be line managing the Museum’s Stewardship Officer.
Job requirements: The post holder will need to be a pro-active, results-driven individual who remains focused and productive under pressure. Solid experience of managing legacy relationships in the cultural or heritage sector is essential as are outstanding communication skills.
