Elterwater Hostel

Elterwater Independent Hostel Ltd is a family owned and managed business, employing a small team of 3 on-site staff. Formerly YHA Elterwater, operating independently since 2013, the Hostel has been welcoming guests since 1939 and can sleep up to 38 people in a variety of private or shared dorm rooms.

Ideally situated in the Langdale Valley, Elterwater Hostel aims to provide guests with a home away from home in the heart of the Lake District. With access to the fells right from the front door and a focus on providing warm, homely accommodation at a great price, we encourage guests to make the most of all that the Lake District has to offer.

We cater to individuals, schools groups and adventure/outdoor enthusiasts and are open throughout the year, benefiting from a loyal and returning customer base and maintaining excellent review scores (4.5 on Tripadvisor).

The owners are passionate about the Lake District and keen to preserve the spirit of hostelling by providing affordable and accessible accommodation, and an outstanding customer experience for all types of guests. They have substantially upgraded the hostel over the past decade, in the spirit of continual and sustainable improvement, and recently rebuilt the manager and staff accommodation to a high standard.
