Set up in 2003, FoWG has run a full programme of community activities: events; tours; education workshops. it provides an educational resource for schools and the local community; enhancing the park (Windmill Gardens) and providing community events that bring local people together. We work with local organisations e.g. a local youth project, to provide out of school workshops. It is a community hub, situated in a ward that is in the 20% most deprived in England and Wales. and in a small park that is the only open space in an area where most people live in flats. It is a diverse community and as well as offering activities to people of all ages such as tai chi, gardening, - and of course milling, as we are the only working windmill in inner London! - we recruit a large number of local volunteers to help deliver our projects. We regularly consult people to develop projects and amend existing ones. We inspire confidence, a sense of belonging, enjoyable activities and ways to move on e.g. volunteers have moved on into employment through experience at our pop-up cafe.
