The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has two priority areas: alleviating poverty and improving health / saving lives. It particularly welcomes nominations of charities that are working in areas of deprivation, and charities that have an annual income turnover of less than £100,000. The Foundation made its first donation in 1999 and has since donated more than £9m to charities and good causes across the UK. While it’s entirely independent of Yorkshire Building Society, the Foundation is funded by an annual donation from Yorkshire Building Society which funds strategic grants, along with donations from the Society’s members who opt in to donate the annual pence of interest from their mortgage or savings accounts – no more than 99p a year – through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme.
