Kentish Town City Farm is a community charity that helps people connect with animals, nature and the environment. The Farm’s work is based on two theoretical models: The first, called Eco-Therapy, suggests that by bringing people into closer contact with animals and green space in a facilitated, structured and safe way, they may gain therapeutic benefits, including increased wellbeing and enhanced resilience. Eco-Therapy works on the Five Ways of Wellbeing: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. (University of Essex, Ecominds Effects on Wellbeing, 2013) The second, called Placemaking, proposes when local residents come together to build, enhance or care for space, they develop a stronger stake in their community, and commitment to making things better.  Places that are created this way themselves invite greater interaction between people and foster healthier, more social, and economically viable communities. City Farms bring these two models together, leveraging the motivating power of animals and green space to promote wellness at the individual and community level.
