Peer-to-peer support is a form of assistance where individuals with similar experiences help one another in a supportive and non-judgmental manner. This support can take many forms, such as emotional, informational, or practical. It allows people to share their experiences, learn from each other, and gain valuable insight into difficult situations. Peer support is often a great alternative or supplement to traditional forms of counseling or therapy because it provides a sense of community and belonging. Additionally, it can be very empowering to receive help from someone who has been through a similar experience and come out on the other side. By fostering a culture of peer support, individuals can build strong and lasting relationships, gain new skills, and achieve a sense of self-empowerment. SOA -Talk is there for that purpose, launched in Sussex with future plans that more groups will be opened across the South, and eventually the rest of the UK. Funded entirely by public donations, fundraising events, and the support of local businesses Soa-Talk will continue the work that first started in 2022, to give back to the community and support mental health by facilitating peer-to-peer meetings, raising awareness for mental health, and supporting those discussions that no one wants to have, but we do and we will.
