Gateway Leisure has been providing a specialist disability service for over 31 years; from learning disabilities to those who have profound and multiple disabilities. Latterly, the organisation has responded to local need and is providing specialist autism-specific activity and training. The organisation was established in 1992, achieving charitable status in 1995. The Gateway Centre itself was built from Urban Programme funding and is the busy main operating premises. However, today Gateway Leisure operates services across four different sites; incorporating borough of Rochdale, Lancashire and from the Oldham/Rochdale border. Over the years, Gateway Leisure has expanded and delivers various day services, respite and outreach services. The longevity and success of the organisation is largely attributed to a dedicated, innovative staff team, who are encouraged to work creatively to make sure the organisation continues to enable people who use services to access opportunities and activities that contribute to a wholesome life. Staff members are fully trained and qualified to work across the teams at Gateway Leisure. Training schedules make sure that skills are updated consistently and in line with current legislation. The teams have many years of experience and a wealth of knowledge that underpins the ongoing success and health of the organisation.
