To provide training of Young People aged between the ages of 9 and 18 based on the values of the Royal Navy. The UnIt is a uniformed Youth Organisation with adult volunteers who supervise the training and run the Unit. Training involves a range of opportunities including rowing and canoeing/kayaking. There are opportunities to attend weekend and week courses to obtain a range of qualifications. Leadership training is given to Senior Cadets. Stoke-on-Trent Sea Cadets are looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the Unit. These include Uniformed volunteers who supervise the training of the cadets. No previous experience is necessary as full training is given. Uniformed adults have the opportunity to obtain qualifications by attending courses. There is a rank structure and as volunteers are promoted they move into posts with greater responsibilty. Civilian volunteers form the Unit Management Team. This team is responsible for overseeing the work of the Unit and has a Governance function. Monthly meetiings are held by the Team. The Team is also responsible for fundraising for the Unit which is a registered Charity and team members are trustees of the charity. Through this training cadets have access to activities which enable them to obtain nationally recognised qualifications. In addition it broadens their outlook on life and gives them a range of leadership skills.
