Careers at Bukit Lawang Trust

We deliver a range of free educational programmes including English Language teaching, conservation education, Sustainable Business and Ecological farming, all in rural communities in the Bohorok region where we are based. We run a well-established volunteer programme which brings regular international volunteers to the hub to teach and to learn while they enjoy a cultural exchange here in the community. We also run several supporting community projects including playgroup, free kindergarten, fitness classes and litter picks. Our mission: To deliver high quality education in Conservation, English language, Eco-farming and Business Enterprise in order to enable people to access more opportunities for their academic, financial, physical and holistic wellbeing as well as foster a respect and care for the environment.

Escape's take on Bukit Lawang Trust

Bukit Lawang Trust are a small-scale grassroots education and conservation charity based in North Sumatra, Indonesia. They aim to support the local community by providing free English lessons to the local children, and by providing support to the local schools. Their conservation efforts focus on the preservation of the Sumatran orangutan and include tree planting and habitat restoration. While their impactful work is done in Indonesia, they have found an innovative way to bring it to the UK in the form of 'The Jungle Book' storytelling. They also have a super cool team - don't take our word for it, check out their reviews!
