Clare Combined Charities is based in Clare, Suffolk. The Charity is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of three Almshouses in the town, Clare Common, Clare allotments, Upper Common and Goosecroft. The Charity also provides educational grants to those in need. The Charity's history is rich and varied, dating as far back as 1880. In 1924, ‘Clare Combined Charities’ was officially formed, merging the five local charities ‘The Common Pasture’ (1899), ‘The Charity of William Cadge’ (1905), ‘The Almshouse Charity and the Bridewell Meadow Charity’ (1865), ‘The Poor’s Land or Goose Croft’ (1914) and ‘The Collins Dole’ (1914). In 1963 the Charity was confirmed by the Charity Commission, boasting a Board of Trustees including a gentleman, a farmer, an ironmonger, a physician and surgeon, a miller, a bank agent, a tea dealer and the vicar of the parish of Clare.
